The British Rowing Pathway programmes host regular webinars throughout the year, addressing essential topics such as nutrition, injury prevention, and stress management. To showcase the support provided to our athletes on the pathway, we are opening this final webinar up to the entire rowing community.

About the webinar

This webinar will feature GB Rowing Team members and ambassadors for female athlete health, Juliette Perry (European Gold and World Bronze medalist) and Heidi Long (Olympic Bronze medalist and multiple World and European medalist), presenting. They will discuss how the menstrual cycle might affect training and performance, ways to manage that, as well as nutrition, RED-S, the importance of proper breast support in rowing and the pelvic floor. They’ll provide simple and practical ways that can be implemented right away to enhance training, from a coach, cox and athlete perspective.

“It’s a chance to connect with development athletes and share some of the lessons we have learned through our rowing and academic journeys”

Alongside her rowing career, Juliette has worked for The Well HQ, which aims to redesign sport and fitness to create systems that better support women and girls. Having dropped out of sport during her teens and started rowing at university, she is passionate about empowering women and girls through sport, and particularly supporting girls to stay in sports during puberty.

“I’m really looking forward to this webinar because it’s a chance to connect with development athletes and share some of the lessons we have learned through our rowing and academic journeys,” said Olympic bronze medallist, Heidi Long.

“I’ve seen how important things like fuelling, breast support, and menstrual cycle tracking can be, so it is great to have the opportunity to help educate athletes about women’s health in sport.

“The conversation around women’s health in sport is improving and that’s really exciting! But, there is still so much more we can do to make information more accessible and practical. I hope athletes come away feeling more confident in understanding their own bodies, knowing what’s normal for them, when to ask for help, and have a few simple actions they can use everyday, such as, eating something within 30 minutes of training.”

Beyond rowing, Heidi is also dedicated to advancing women’s health. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford, where her research explores the potential impact of ultra-processed food (UPF) on female fertility. Passionate about giving back to the sport that has shaped her life, Heidi is dedicated to encouraging more women and girls to experience the joy and opportunity that rowing can bring.
