Welcome to Team Scotland!

The Regatta will now be contested between the 13 teams, based on the ten British Rowing Regions plus Scotland. The Thames Region is split into three separate teams representing its three sub-regions and Wales competes with Wiltshire, Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset (WAGS).

Luke Dillon, Chair of the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR) Organising Committee, said, “I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to include Scotland in the JIRR for the first time this year. this means that a huge number of junior athletes who previously could not compete in the event will now get the opportunity to represent Scotland. Being selected to represent your region, competing at the JIRR, and winning there are all significant achievements for any athlete rowing in Great Britain. We look forward to welcoming the Scottish team along with all of the competitors, coaches and spectators.”

Racing format: time trials

The first round in each event will be a time trial over 1,000m, from which the fastest six crews will progress to an A final with all of the remainder to minor finals. The side-by-side finals races will take place over 1,500m with a stake boat start, apart from Adaptive races, which will be over 1,000m with a free start.

Extra opportunities for scullers to race

Teams can now make two entries in each of open and women’s J15 and J16 single sculls. These events will be divided into first and second boat classes based on time trial results.

Additional Victor Ludorum trophy for single sculls

A new Victor Ludorum Trophy will be presented to the team with the highest points across the four singles sculls events (WJ15, J15 1x, WJ16 1x and J16). This is in addition to the existing Victores Ludorum trophies:

  • The Di Ellis Shield for the overall Victor Ludorum
  • The Margaret Marshall Cup for the Victrix Ludorum (Women’s events)
  • The Ann and Brian Colborne Cup for the Victor Ludorum (Open events).

Further details can be found in the Notice of Competition, which has now been published on the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta page.

The 2024 Junior Inter-Regional Regatta will take place on Saturday, 20 April.
