With one automatic qualification spot available for the A/B semi-finals the heat was hotly contested; Siddorn and Edwards put up a strong battle but finished in fourth place, meaning they will race again in Wednesday’s repechage.

Reflecting on their performance, Edwards said: “I think we made good improvements from Rotterdam in the first half of the race; for the rest of the regatta we want to try and spread that out a bit further.

“We’re starting to understand each other a lot more and how we work well together and think we have a lot more to give.”

Great Britain have five races tomorrow, with the women’s quad and both eights racing in their heats and the women’s four and men’s quad taking on the repechages. You can watch all the races live on www.worldrowing.com.
