Incident at World University Championships for Rowing

Over the weekend of 2 – 4 September, the 2016 FISU World University Championships for Rowing were held in Poznan, Poland.

Over the weekend of 2 – 4 September, the 2016 FISU World University Championships for Rowing were held in Poznan, Poland.

A Great Britain representative rower has been involved in a serious accident on the Sunday evening, 4 September, after the Championships had concluded.

The rower is Ailish Sheehan, who is currently a postgraduate student at Goldsmiths, University of London and rows for University of London Boat Club. Ailish competed in the W4- at the Championships, where she won a bronze medal.

Ailish is in a serious but stable condition and is currently being treated in hospital in Poznan.

BUCS, British Rowing and Rowing Ireland are supporting the team leaders and her family during this difficult time and liaising with all relevant parties.

Other athletes in the Great Britain delegation have returned home. BUCS is working with team leaders to support these athletes.

BUCS asks that her friends keep her in their thoughts, but to please respect Ailish’s family’s privacy.

British Rowing’s thoughts and wishes go out to Ailish, her family and her friends.
