Overall the team won a gold, two silver and nine bronze medals in the competition during which the races are repeated on each day.ADVERT According to team manager, Jimmy Scragg, the standard of this year’s competition was extremely high. Each of the twelve competing nations won at least one medal and nine out of those twelve nations won a gold. Italy were the overall winners of the competition, with fourteen medals. GB’s outstanding performance from the annual U18 international event came from the women’s quad of Emily Richards, Jessica Newson, Erica Holmes and Rosalind Wilson who won a gold medal on Saturday. The GB quad held the lead throughout their race to finish in a time of 6:38.18 ahead of Spain and Poland in second and third. They were fourth in the same event on Sunday. Consistent performances came elsewhere in the squad with both GB single scullers winning medals on Saturday and Sunday. Isabel Lingard, who was originally down as a spare in the squad until a late change, performed admirably as she won bronze medals on both days of the competition. Harrison Uglow raced in the boys’ single scull and also performed well in winning a bronze medal on Saturday, upgrading that by winning a silver medal on Sunday finishing in 7:16.58 behind Luuk Adema of the Netherlands. Great Britain’s second silver medal came from the women’s four of Megan Slabbert, Matilda Martin, Susannah Lowe and Megan Barry on Saturday as they finished just behind the host nation in a time of 7:02.18. The men’s coxed four of William Crossley, George Horrell, Kaan Belton, Stijn De Graaf and cox Gavin McWilliams produced solid performances on both days of the competition as they won two bronze medals. They were just pipped to silver on Sunday, finishing just 0.04 seconds behind Spain’s crew. The women’s pair of Zoe Taylor and Xanthe Weatherhead won bronze medals on both days of the competition. Great Britain’s other bronze medals were won by the men’s four of Ben Brophy, Albert Mitchell, Sam Gillingham and Tim Nugent, and the women’s eight, who opened the tournament with their race on Friday. GB’s Team Manager for the Coupe, Jimmy Scragg, spoke about the event as a whole afterwards, saying: “The competition went really well and it was very well organised. Libourne is a good venue and everything was kept going well in spite of a few rain showers”. He added: “ The girls’ team performed really well, it was just a shame they couldn’t hold on in the last two races and win the team trophy. The standard of the competition on the boys’ side of the competition was very high, particularly in the men’s four, but on at least one day of the competition I feel everyone performed to their potential. Our target for next year is to turn those bronze medals into golds”. SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE =============================================== RESULTS GB results only.
