All three GB Rowing Team crews through today in Trakai

The GB Rowing Team junior men’s eight were in action for the first time today at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, with some success.

They qualified for the semi-finals after taking second place in a heat won by perennial rivals Germany.

Britain’s junior men’s coxed four and quadruple scull both raced repechages to book their place in a semi-final and the final of the Championships respectively.

The men’s quadruple scull of Callum Gathercole, Chris Lawrie, Andrew Joel and Harry Glenister won their heat today ahead of Italy whilst the coxed four were second to Belarus but still went through to the final.

“The quadruple scull had a great race today”, said team manager, John Layng. “They demonstrated the ability that we know they have”.

Tomorrow’s race schedule, meanwhile, has been tweaked by the event organisers because of potential afternoon storms. Racing will still start at 07.30 am UK time but with semi-finals first rather than last on the day’s programme. For more information visit: www.worldrowing.com
