Will Fletcher

At the first World Cup of 2011 in Munich Will with crewmates Jono Clegg, John Preston and Jamie Kirkwood raced in the Great Britain 2 lightweight men's four and finished in 11th place. The same crew raced in the lightweight men's four at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Amsterdam and after narrowly missing out on a place in the A final, won the B final comfortably.

Will raced in the lightweight men's four at the 2010 World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus, winning gold.  This was an exceptional performance.  The crew won their heat and semi-final convincingly.  In the final, Italy led over the first half and then GB pounced, establishing a clear lead in the 3rd quarter and winning gold by just under a length.

Will took up rowing at Tyne Rowing Club having been inspired by his sister Frances who was an U23 Worlds Silver Medallist in 2005.

He gained his first international vest when he won a gold medal in the men's four at the GB v France J16 Match in 2006.  He followed this with two bronze medals in the same boat at the Coupe de Jeunesse in 2007.

Will won at Henley Royal Regatta for three consecutive years - the Wyfold Challenge Cup in 2008, the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup 2009 and the Visitors Challenge Cup in 2010.  He is believed to be the youngest at 20 to have achieved this.

He raced in the lightweight men's quad at the 2009 World U23 Championships, where he won a bronze medal.

Between 2008-2010 Will completed a 'Modern Sports Apprenticeship in Coaching Rowing' with Durham University.  He is still working with the DUBC coaching team and now hopes to work towards his level 3 coaching qualification.

Once an avid footballer playing for a local team and invited to county trials, Will now counts water sports among his favourite leisure pastimes ... water skiing, knee boarding, body surfing.

He is Lottery-funded through UK Sport.
