Emanuel School – Boathouse Manager
Emanuel School are seeking a Boathouse Manager to manage rowing operations by providing excellent rowing support services, maintenance, and managing the health & safety of rowers & staff
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Ensure that all school equipment used for rowing and coaching is being properly and regularly maintained to ensure that it is safe and adequate for its intended purpose.
2. Provide logistical support for the School to get rowing equipment to and from a variety of competitions, training venues and camps, including loading and unloading trailers. This will involve travelling to events both nationally and occasionally internationally as required.
3. Assist with coaching a J14 or J15 squad. Depending on experience, the post holder may be asked to lead a squad with the support of other coaches and the Director of Rowing.
4. Undertake refurbishment and minor repairs to boats and equipment in a timeline agreed with the Director of Rowing.
5. Liaise with external boat repair companies to complete major works to boats and equipment in consultation with the Director of Rowing.
6. Be accountable for ensuring that all the boats and equipment are refurbished where necessary, serviced appropriately, and regularly cleaned & maintained to an excellent standard.
7. Ensure that lifejackets, oars and all equipment are well maintained, clean and put away appropriately.
8. Ensure the boat club equipment list is kept up to date
9. Provide support to the Director of Rowing on risk assessment and the management of all rowing activities undertaken.
10. Assist the Director of Rowing in completing the annual British Rowing Safety audit.
11. Support with Boathouse site procedures & compliance and keep records up to date and report this to the Director of Rowing in weekly meetings.
12. Promote the School’s Safeguarding and Keeping Children Safe in Education policies.
13. Help ensure the Boathouse and its surrounds are welcoming to pupils, their parents and other guests.
14. Have open lines of communication with the estates and cleaning teams to ensure the boathouse is kept in good manner, and any critical works are completed in good time.
15. Manage all services at the Boathouse, undertaking maintenance tasks or liaising with estates to ensure suppliers and contract workers are booked in as necessary in communication with the Director of Rowing.
16. Ensure that the Boat Club towing vehicle and trailers are regularly maintained and conform to UK legal regulations and a record is kept of checks.
17. Undertake weekly fire alarm tests and record the tests in the fire logbook. Report defects to the Estates Department.
18. Check water temperatures and record in shared folder between Estates Director and Director of Rowing.
19. Follow controls and recommendations documented in the Water/L8 Risk Assessment under the support and guidance of the estates team.
20. Monitor and maintain security of the site.

Qualifications and knowledge

Standard hours for a full-time member of support staff are 40 per week during term time (35 weeks) and 30 per week during holiday periods (17 week). This role requires flexibility on hours and will entail some weekend and evening work. Time off in lieu will be awarded and taken in agreement with the Director of Rowing. Holiday rowing & racing takes place and there will be busy times of the year between February & July.
Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 per annum depending on experience
