Indoor Rowing Strategy

British Rowing’s overall mission is to lead, enable and inspire excellence in rowing at all levels.

Our primary objective with regards to indoor rowing is to increase participation and ensure it is positioned as a key part of our sport.

Our primary objective with regards to indoor rowing is to increase participation and ensure it is positioned as a key part of our sport.

What does success look like?

  • Doubling the number of indoor rowers in the next five years.
  • Every indoor rower to identify themselves as a rower.

We recognise that the indoor rowing sector already includes a wide range of commercial equipment manufacturers, health and fitness operators, fitness professionals and other suppliers.

Our role will focus on bringing the industry together, addressing barriers to participation and growth, and providing a collective voice and profile for indoor rowing.

In practice this means we will focus on:
ExperienceSupporting the development of products, activities and innovations to improve the indoor rowing experience and overcome barriers to participation.
ProfileIncreasing the profile and awareness of indoor rowing.
CoherenceBringing the industry together and creating pathways supported by industry training, coaching, guidance, research and events.

Indoor Rowing – Industry Forum

A key step towards bringing the indoor rowing industry together will be the formation of an Industry Forum, to be launched in late 2016.

Innovation is rarely the result of one person or organisation with one big idea – it is normally cumulative and collaborative.

The forum will provide an opportunity to bring industry partners together; share research and insight; get feedback on and achieve buy-in to new campaigns, products and innovations and inform the future direction of British Rowing’s indoor rowing activities.

This is an exciting time for everyone involved in indoor rowing and we look forward to working with you to shape the continued development and growth of the sport.
