Tom George profile image

Tom’s journey in rowing began at Radley College where he rowed alongside current pair partner Ollie Wynne-Griffith

Since then he has rowed at Princeton and Cambridge and was part of the GB men’s eight that won a bronze medal at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Throughout the Paris cycle Tom and Ollie have kicked on from the Tokyo performance to establish themselves as the GB men’s pair. In 2020, Tom became the first British rower to break 5:40 for the 2km erg. He remains the British record holder with a time of 5:39.3. Until recently he was also the 5000m world record holder.

Tom is a very private individual who dedicates his free time to “anything but rowing”. This includes putting his degree in real estate finance to good use, learning new skills and altruistic endeavours.

Although a surprise for many, Tom was born in South Shields and has stated that the north east is in his blood – he is a lifelong Newcastle United fan. Tom also loves rugby, having played the sport up until he left school. His decision to pick up an oar stemmed from wanting to maintain fitness for the rugby season.
