Safeguarding and Integrity update – June 2023

The Safeguarding and Integrity team had a great time at the National Schools Regatta last month, where we hosted a Clean Sport stand as part of UK Anti-Doping’s Clean Sport Week!

As part of the day, we invited junior rowers to register for our Clean Sport draw for the chance to win some prizes. Congratulations to two rowers from Nottingham & Union Rowing Club and also Hinksey Sculling Schools! We will be in touch to send you some Clean Sport goodies.

We were delighted to see so many young athletes interested in clean sport. It is important to us that young people understand the importance of competing fairly and without the use of performance-enhancing drugs. We hope that our stand helped to raise awareness of this issue and that it will encourage more young athletes to choose clean sport.

Thank you to everyone who visited our stand and congratulations again to the winners of the draw!

We would like to remind everyone that UK Anti-Doping’s Clean Sport Hub  provides free education courses for athletes, students, coaches, and practitioners. We encourage all of the rowing community to sign up to the Clean Sport Hub to learn more about anti-doping.

Last month we ran a series of Club Welfare Officer briefings led by Sally Wan, our Lead Safeguarding Officer. We have had brilliant feedback and will be running further briefings in June. We would like every Club Welfare Officer and any other assistant welfare officers to attend a briefing and we will be providing a range of dates and times to suit availability. Dates for the next set of briefings will be circulated directly to the Club Welfare Officer contact details listed on Club Profiles, therefore please make sure the correct contact details are listed. Details of the briefings will also be shared in the Club Welfare Officer Forum. If you do not know how to access this, contact [email protected].

Finally we are reviewing all safeguarding education compliance and would like to encourage all members, if you have a Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate, to upload this onto your British Rowing membership profile.
