British Rowing hosts World Rowing umpiring seminar

World Rowing umpires need to attend a rules seminar at least every four years in order to keep their World Rowing licence (as well as meeting the requirements to keep their national licence of course). Seminars are held at some World Rowing events or national governing bodies can organise a seminar if required. Last November, British Rowing hosted a World Rowing umpiring seminar at Leander Club.  The seminar was led by Patrick Rombaut, Chair of World Rowing’s Umpiring Commission and 15 of GBR’s World Rowing umpires attended.

The previous seminar held in the UK was in 2018 when the European Championships were held at Strathclyde Park.

Retiring World Rowing umpires honoured

During 2021-22, four GBR umpires retired as World Rowing umpires and after the seminar Patrick presented Ian Cruickshank and Martin Levy with their honorary badges. Chris Drury received his honorary badge at Henley Royal Regatta last summer while Mike Haggerty received his at the European Rowing Under 19 Championships in Sabaudia (Italy).

Congratulations to Chris, Ian, Martin and Mike on their long and distinguished international umpiring careers.
