Great Britain qualified two more boats for the next stages of the World Rowing Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, with two boats winning their races in Friday’s action.

The women’s double scull put in their second fine performance of the week, finishing comfortably first in their quarter-final having also convincingly won their heat on Wednesday. Holly Dunford and Zoe Adamson sat nearly a second down on the South African boat with 500m to go, but moved through to take the win by over a length.

The duo move on to Saturday’s semi-final; as will the women’s pair, who also won their race on Thursday morning. Entering the repechage after a fourth-place finish in the heat, Rachel Heap and Celia Matthews led from start to finish to secure their progression, a length ahead of Belarus in second place.

Alex Langstone-Bolt, Barnaby Fox, Noah Norman, Archie McChesney and Rory Cruickshank, in the men’s coxed four, will race in Sunday’s B final after finishing fourth in the repechage. The top two crews went through to the medal final, with South Africa and Ukraine taking the qualification spots.

Six British crews will be in semi-final action on Saturday: the women’s four, women’s pair, men’s four, women’s quadruple scull, men’s quadruple scull and women’s double scull. GB boats are in action from 8.50 UK time, battling for places in the medal finals. The men’s eight will again sit out of racing, having qualified directly to Sunday’s final from their heat on Thursday.
