Remembering Michael Hill

A series of events will be held this weekend to pay tribute to missing Thames, London and Latymer Upper School rowing coach Michael Hill.

Michael has been missing since an apparent capsize on the River Thames at Putney on the evening of Monday 2nd February. Subsequent searches of the river, led by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, have proved unsuccessful.

There will be a gathering to remember Michael on Sunday 15th February ahead of the coin toss for the Boustead Cup – the historic annual fixture between eights from Thames and London RC. A minute’s applause will be held at 10.45am at London RC, Embankment, Putney, London, SW15 1LB.

Following the coin toss, a row-over will be performed by women’s crews from both clubs as a tribute to Michael.

“This remains an incredibly difficult time,” said British Rowing Chairman Annamarie Phelps. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family and friends, and with the wider rowing community to which Michael has contributed so much.”
