Winckless to step down from BOA Athlete’s Commission

Olympian Sarah Winckless is to step down as Chair of the BOA Athlete’s Commission, when her current term of office comes to an end in December.

Sarah, an Olympic bronze medallist and double World Champion sculler, has Chaired the Athlete’s Commission since its formation in 2010 – representing the views and interests of former, current and future athletes to the BOA.

“Sarah has been an excellent Chair of the Athletes Commission,” said British Rowing Chairman Annamarie Phelps, “I’m sure the experience she has gained in the role will be of great benefit to rowing and she will continue to be a popular and respected ambassador for the sport.”

The BOA will now seek a replacement for Sarah – an Olympian to Chair the Commission from January 2015 to December 2018.

“Working with the BOA in the Chair role has transformed my skills and knowledge from those of an athlete to a 360 degree understanding of what goes into creating an Olympic Games and supporting an Olympic Team,” said Sarah. “The learnings and friendship I’ve gained are invaluable.”
