GB Rowing Team and Guide Dogs continue Innovative Partnership

National charity Guide Dogs and the GB Rowing Team joined forces in the lead up to the London 2012 Games to support rowers with a visual impairment achieve national selection.

Visually impaired rowers Naomi Riches and James Roe, of course, famously won Paralympic gold at Eton Dorney as part of the mixed coxed four.

Now the two organisations have announced that they will continue to support each other for another three years. The GB Rowing Team will promote the charity through events and campaigns, whilst Guide Dogs will support potential new rowers through the process of classification for the sport – a vital component to competing at international level.

Louise Kingsley, the Paralympic Programme manager, said: “We value highly the support we get from Guide Dogs and we are delighted that they are supporting us for the next three years. It is an innovative partnership which gives us the opportunity to help each other in many ways.”

Jayne George, Guide Dogs Director of Fundraising and Marketing, said: “The relationship between Guide Dogs and the GB Rowing Team exemplifies our aims to support people with a visual impairment to reach their full potential. The achievements of the 2012 Paralympics Rowing team is one of the proudest moments of my time at Guide Dogs. This truly demonstrates the legacy to inspire others with sight loss to fulfil their dreams.”

Naomi Riches will join a host of celebrities as a guest presenter at the prestigious Guide Dogs Annual Awards on 11 December at the Hilton on Park Lane, London, which is a major fundraising event for the charity.

Riches will join stars such as actor Martin Clunes, Adrian Chiles, England rugby captain Chris Robshaw and singer, Camilla Kerslake. Whilst attendees taking part in the live auction will be able to bid to win a visit to the GB national training centre at Caversham Lakes, Reading.
