Host of GB Rowing Team World and Olympic Champions race at British Championships

Olympic champions Peter Reed, Alex Gregory and Helen Glover are amongst the GB Rowing Team members who have returned to their clubs to race at the British Championships this weekend in Nottingham (18/19 October).

Paralympic gold medallists Pamela Relph and Tom Aggar will also be taking part in the event with Para-rowing events taking place on the Sunday.

At the British Championships, team members will race in doubles and fours on the Saturday and in quadruple sculls and eights on the Sunday.

Inevitably the entries have thrown up some potentially interesting clashes amongst team-mates who raced together to medals as little as two months ago at the World Championships in Chungju, Republic of Korea.

World Champions Mohamed Sbihi and George Nash are racing in a Molesey eight which includes 2012 Olympic bronze medallist James Foad. In the same event world champions Reed, Alex Gregory, Tom Ransley, Dan Ritchie, Will Satch and cox Phelan HIll will race for Leander.

Reed, Gregory, Ransley and Satch also form a men’s four for the Saturday events as do Sbihi, Nash and Foad with Phil Congdon for Molesey. Andy Triggs Hodge sits out the event as he has a medical exemption and is enjoying celebrating the birth of his son this week.

Constantine Louloudis, 2012 Olympic men’s eight bronze medallist, features on the start list in an Isis four.

The GB women will race against each other in a number of events. Frances Houghton and Vicky Meyer-Laker, the world championships double, take on crews including a mix of lightweight and open-weight rowers. Kat Copeland, 2012 Olympic lightweight double scull champion, races with Kristina Stiller for Tees RC whilst lightweight 2013 world championships finalist Imogen Walsh, from Inverness and Imperial College, races with Melanie Wilson of London RC.

Some siblings will be in action. Katie Greves from the 2013 women’s eight races with her sister Caroline in the women’s double, whilst sisters Monica and Pamela Relph race in separate crews for Leander Club.

Glover, from Penzance but racing in Minerva Bath colours, will compete in a composite club four on Saturday with Olivia Carnegie Brown, Zoe Lee and Yasmin Tredell whilst Louisa Reeve, Polly Swann, Lucinda Gooderham and Caragh McMurtry are also in action in this event. The top women will also race in eights on the Sunday.

Olympic silver medal brothers Richard and Peter Chambers have separated after a season in the lightweight double with Peter representing Oxford Brookes in the open weight categories whilst Richard races in a lightweight four on Saturday with Chris Bartley, Jonn Clegg and Will Fletcher.

The entry list includes a number of top U23s, giving them the chance to impress.
