Remaining Men’s Rower Selected for 2012 Olympics

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced today that Constantine Louloudis will compete for Team GB in the men’s eight at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Louloudis, 20, has overcome a back injury to earn his place in the Team GB rowing squad this summer.

He claimed gold in the men’s pair with George Nash at the 2011 Under-23 World Championships in Amsterdam last year, and was the youngest member of the victorious Oxford crew at the 2011 Boat Race last March, at the age of 19.

On his selection to Team GB, Constantine Louloudis said: “I’m delighted to have been selected after such a long period of doubt. I can’t wait to race at the Olympic Games this summer in London.”

Team GB Rowing Team Leader David Tanner said: “I’m very pleased that this completes the names for all 52 qualified slots. It is good news that Constantine Louloudis is now fully recovered from his injury and as an exciting, young prospect I’m sure he can really add something to our men’s eight.”

The BOA has also confirmed today the two Open-weight men’s rowing spares for the London 2012 Olympics.

Marcus Bateman, 29, who won bronze with the men’s eight at the Munich World Cup and silver at the Lucerne World Cup events earlier this year, is joined by Cameron Nichol, 25, who claimed silver with the men’s eight at both the 2010 and 2011 World Championships.

In the Lightweight category, 27-year-old Adam Freeman-Pask, who won gold in the lightweight men’s single scull at Lucerne earlier this year, and gold in the lightweight men’s pair with crew-mate Paul Mattick at the 2012 Munich and Belgrade World Cups, will occupy the reserve spot.
