Copeland, Emery and Chambers called up to GB Rowing Team for World Championships

Katherine Copeland, Kieren Emery and Peter Chambers have received a call-up from the GB Rowing Team for the senior World Championships after their gold medal performances this weekend at World U23 level.

Copeland will race the lightweight women’s single whilst Emery and Chambers will contest the lightweight men’s pair at the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, from August 28 – September 4, 2011.

Both crews won gold medals and set age-group world best times at the World U23 Championships in Amsterdam. They now join the Siemens and Lottery-backed squad for Bled.

“These rowers have been selected on the basis of their excellent results over the weekend.  They showed that they have the ability to perform when it matters”, said GB Rowing Team Performance Director David Tanner.

Copeland, 20 from Tees RC, will be joined in Bled by her coach James Harris whilst Peter Sheppard will now be there to coach Emery, 21, from Newcastle, and Chambers, 21, from Coleraine.

Chambers, of course, substituted into the lightweight men’s four at the senior world cup in Lucerne earlier this month and took gold there. He and Emery were also world cup silver medallists in Munich in May an event at which Copeland also took a silver.

This year the World Championships double as the main Olympic and Paralympic qualifying regatta.

*SIEMENS is the high performance partner of the GB Rowing Team
(as such they sponsor all the Olympic and Paralympic Class
boats in the senior squad and add value to the GB Rowing
Teams’ Start and High Performance Programme in Clubs Schemes)
