Four wins for reshuffled squad

British crews recorded four wins in the FISA Team Cup today in Seville despite a reshuffle caused by illness. Racing took place over 1,000m and in a strong headwind.

The men’s eight, four, pair and single scull all won. Alan Campbell (pictured carrying his boat) overcame Sjoerd Hamburger, a world championships B finalist from the Netherlands, in his final today in a time of 3:32.86.

Peter Reed and Andy Hodge took victory in the men’s pair in 3:23.46 whilst the men’s eight,  stroked by Alastair Heathcote, came home ahead of two Spanish crews in 2:57.57.

Colin Smith and Stephen Rowbotham, a hastily assembled combination, were third in the men’s double in a time of 3:24.98 behind winners Greece and Belgium in second.

A 500m sprint regatta is on the menu tomorrow at the Andalucian High Performance Centre.  Tom Lucy will replace Toby Garbett and Cameron Nichol will swap with Marcus Bateman – both in the eight.
