Purchase and Pauls take lightweight honours

Zac Purchase and Mathilde Pauls won the men’s and women’s lightweight single scull 5km GB Assessment trials in Boston, Lincs, yesterday.

Purchase was quickest to all three timing points and won by just under seven seconds from James Lindsey-Fynn who, in turn, beat Purchase’s 2007 double scull partner, Mark Hunter, by just over two seconds.  James Clarke was fourth. Clarke and Lindsey-Fynn were both part of the Great Britain lightweight men’s four which took the world championships title in August.

The lightweight women’s race was won by Mathilde Pauls in a time of 19:19.05. Andrea Dennis took second place ahead of her more experienced Wallingford team-mate and 2004 Olympian Helen Casey in fourth.  Sophie Hosking of Durham Uni was third.
