The lightweight women’s quadruple scull, coached by Rob Dauncey, took their gold medal in style racing hard to the line to hold off a strong Dutch challenge, having led throughout. "It was tough but we did exactly what we had to do", said Sophie Hosking afterwards.ADVERT Lottery-backed Matt Beechey and Daniel Harte were silver medallists behind Italy in the lightweight men’s pair producing a strong second half to their race. "We’ve grown quite a bit as a crew in the past few weeks", said Harte afterwards. "But the Italians have worked hard, too". The young British women’s four of Vicky Etiebet, Alice Freeman, Vicky Myers and Rebecca Rowe were also silver medallists. They were delighted to get the experience of racing at this level under their belt. The combination were early leaders before the Germans put in a surge that they could not counter. "It was good to be pushed in racing", said Freeman afterwards. "Now we need to learn as a crew to change pace quickly", added Myers. And the lightweight men’s quadruple scull wrapped up the programme for the day by taking bronze. This was a fast-finishing race but the British held their position behind winners Italy and silver medallists Germany.
