Strong showing by GB in Poplar Regatta

Overcome by an asthma attack, Helene Raynsford, Britain’s Siemens-sponsored adaptive single scull world champion was unable to finish her race at the recent poplar international regatta but otherwise the GB squad athletes had a good event.

Rowers from Great Britain, South Africa, Hong Kong, Poland, and France took part in difficult tailwind conditions.

The British adaptive four, also world champions and sponsored by Siemens, performed well in the conditions and were not challenged throughout the race and won in 3:38.20.

James Roberts and Karen Cromie, who placed 6th at Eton, proved the most pleasing performance of the squad beating same the Polish double scull who won silver at last years world rowing championships. Their race showed how much progress has been made over the winter training period.

Tom Aggar, meanwhile, had an outstanding performance in the men’s single scull fighting off a very handy French sculler. Both Tom and the Frenchman were a considerable distance in front of the rest of the field.
