Description:
If you're keen to help your club by supporting new rowers as they get onto the water in a safe and enjoyable way, the Learn to Row Helper training could be a great fit!
This workshop is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to assist new and aspiring rowers within your club. You'll learn how to create a welcoming, inclusive environment while helping others take their first steps in rowing.
The course offers a broad introduction to key support activities, including basic health and safety checks, warm-up and cool-down ideas, safe boat entry and overview of British Rowing and potential next steps.
This is a pre-coaching award aimed at those assisting with on-water activity alongside a qualified coach during Learn to Row and novice sessions.

What will I get out of it?
As a Learn to Row Helper, you will be able to support coached rowing sessions for beginners as part of an organised programme.
Who can attend?
Anyone over 18 years of age wanting to develop their skills to support the delivery of rowing sessions.
How is the workshop structured?
The workshop covers:
- Understanding your role and responsibilities including how to promote a safe and inclusive environment
- Key elements of planning and delivering safe, effective sessions for groups of rowers
- Core skills needed to support sessions successfully
- An introduction to fundamental rowing techniques and skill development
- Learning through video observation of rowing activities
- Discussion of best practices when assisting during sessions
- Discussing the key skills of a Learn to Row Helper when supporting rowing sessions
The course combines theory with online learning to provide a balanced and practical experience.
