Whanganui Collegiate School – Residential Tutor & Rowing Coach
Whanganui Collegiate School is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Residential Tutor & Rowing Coach to join our team for the 2025 academic year.
This is a full-time, live-in role that offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both the pastoral and sporting life of one of New Zealand’s most historic and respected independent schools. The position combines boarding house pastoral care with hands-on coaching in a nationally competitive rowing programme.
Key Responsibilities
This dual-purpose position involves two key areas of responsibility:
1. Â Pastoral Care (Primary Focus)
- Live onsite in a boarding house and provide day-to-day support and guidance to students.
- Contribute to evening and weekend supervision (on a rostered basis).
- Help foster a positive and inclusive house culture.
- Support students’ wellbeing and personal development.
2. Â Rowing Coaching (Secondary but Significant Focus)
- Work under the direction of the Master in Charge of Rowing.
- Coach students across a range of abilities, from novice to competitive crews.
- Assist with planning and delivery of training sessions.
- Attend rowing regattas and camps throughout the season.
- Help cultivate a high-performing, supportive team culture.
- Additional responsibilities may include up to 15 hours per week of tutoring or school-related duties depending on your background and interests.

A bit about you
We are looking for
- A confident, empathetic leader who enjoys working with adolescents in a residential environment
- A rowing coach with experience (club, school, or university level) who is passionate about athlete development
- Someone with a sense of fun, maturity, and adaptability
- The ability to model strong personal values, including integrity, responsibility, and teamwork
- International applicants with a valid work visa or eligibility to work in New Zealand are welcome.
The successful candidate will be placed in a girls’ boarding house, and we particularly welcome applications from those who can help build a strong and empowering environment for young women. Female applicants are especially encouraged to apply.

Start Date: Mid July 2025
Type: Full time, fixed-term (Term 3 2025 until end of Term 2 2026)
Salary: $23.50 per hour
