Magdalen College Boat Club – Rowing Coach
Magdalen College Boat Club (MCBC) is seeking a coach for our men’s and women’s crews for the upcoming year.
We’re looking for a coach to help continue and amplify the upwards momentum of the club (4 regularly training crews, 4 sets of blades in the last 4 years, M1 and W1 both 8th on the river in Eights, winners of Oriel Regatta CrewdVIIIs), adding to our relaxed atmosphere and aiding the growth of the club. We’re open to applicants with all experience levels, as well as those who would prefer to coach lower crews.
Our crews train on the Isis and at Abingdon rowing club, with outings happening every morning (6:30-8am) during the week, as well during the day on weekends. We also aim to run evening water sessions during Trinity term, with sessions taking place after 5pm.
Responsibilities
- Coach sessions either on the Isis or in Abingdon
- Assist crews in preparation for Summer Eights
- Continue the club’s upward momentum
- Work with other existing coaches to create a club and crew training plan
This is a flexible role, and we are willing to work around your external commitments. We offer a competitive rate of pay.
Essential:
- Enthusiasm for developing athletes across a range of abilities
- Availability to coach morning sessions on the Isis or at Abingdon
- Good availability throughout the year, specifically during Oxford term times
Desirable:
- Previous coaching experience, with evidence of athlete/crew development
- Knowledge of Oxford rowing and bumps racing
- Availability at weekends/weekday evenings
- Willingness to coach in Abingdon as well as the Isis
- Launch driving experience
- X/S status coxing licence, with a willingness to coach-cox if necessary
