Linacre Boat Club – Open Side Head Coach

Linacre Boat Club (LBC) is looking to recruit a new head coach for their open side.

The candidate would be working alongside our small team of assistant coaches. We are seeking candidates with a proven coaching ability to lead our open side. LBC is a friendly graduate club composed of members from Linacre and Nuffield colleges at the University of Oxford. We train on the Isis out of Linacre boathouse.

As a graduate college, we train during vacation periods and term time. Outings typically occur at 06:30 AM and 8:00 AM throughout the week, with additional outings during afternoons at weekends. We also run a training camp during the Easter Vacation. The position will involve working closely with our open-side captains and captain of coxes to design training plans for our crews (including coxes and their development) and coach water and land sessions.

In previous years, the club has focused both on Oxford races (bumps, IWL/ISL, Oxford City) as well as successfully competing in external races (Quintin, HoRR, Reading Regatta, Henley T&V). The number of open boats entered into bumps has varied between 1 and 3, with a slightly slow 2024 season due to lack of water time and recruitment struggles. We have a core of dedicated and enthusiastic rowers, and are seeking an applicant who can help build depth in our squad and enter two strong boats in torpids and eights next year. We seek someone who can encourage and motivate our new rowers who join in 2024, as well as further develop our senior squad.
Exact details of hours, commitment, and pay are open to negotiation depending on the applicant’s needs. If you are a positive individual with experience coaching and good communication skills, we would like to hear from you.

Please send your CV and cover letter to Tom, [email protected], outlining any relevant past experience and why you believe you are well suited for this role. Be sure to indicate your availability for trial outings, which we will be running over the summer. We will conduct interviews on a rolling basis until the right candidate is found.

Salary: Open to negotiation

Type: Part Time, approximately 3-4 sessions of 90 minutes per week

Application Dates: From Wednesday 11th June 2025 to Tuesday 1st July 2025
