Emanuel School – Boathouse Manager
Emanuel School is seeking a Boathouse Manager to manage rowing operations by providing excellent rowing support services, maintenance, and managing the health & safety of rowers & staff
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Ensure that all school equipment used for rowing and coaching is being properly and regularly maintained to ensure that it is safe and adequate for its intended purpose.
2. Provide logistical support for the School to get rowing equipment to and from a variety of competitions, training venues and camps, including loading and unloading trailers. This will involve planning of resources and staff time to drive to events both nationally and occasionally internationally as required.
3. Undertake refurbishment and minor repairs to boats and equipment in a timeline agreed with the Director of Rowing.
4. Liaise with external boat repair companies to complete major works to boats and equipment in consultation with the Director of Rowing.
5. Be accountable for ensuring that all the boats and equipment are refurbished where necessary, serviced appropriately, and regularly cleaned & maintained to an excellent standard.
6. Ensure that lifejackets, oars and all equipment is well maintained, clean and put away appropriately.
7. Keep a live document of all equipment, highlighting which is under repair and assist coaches with equipment support where reasonably required.
8. Provide support to the Director of Rowing on risk assessment and the management of all rowing activities undertaken.
9. Assist the Director of Rowing in completing the annual British Rowing Safety audit.
10. Support with Boathouse site procedures & compliance and keep records up to date and report this to the Director of Rowing in weekly meetings.
11. Report any breach of the rules, unsafe conditions or procedural compliance not being adhered to the Director of Rowing.
12. Promote the School’s Safeguarding and Keeping Children Safe in Education policies.
13. Help ensure the Boathouse and its surrounds are welcoming to pupils, their parents and other guests.
14. Maintain the Boathouse and grounds in a high standard of order and cleanliness, undertaking work as required and calling on help from the school maintenance team and cleaning services as appropriate.
15. Undertake weekly audits, repair defects and, where required liaise with the Estates Department for support for safety and business critical works.
16. Manage all services at the Boathouse, undertaking maintenance tasks or liaising with suppliers as necessary as agreed by the Director of Rowing.
17. Ensure that the Boat Club towing vehicle and trailers are regularly maintained and conform to UK legal regulations and a record is kept of checks.
18. Undertake weekly fire alarm tests and record the tests in the fire logbook. Report defects to the Estates Department.
19. Review fire and evacuation plans and undertake regular mock evacuations under direction of Director of Rowing.
20. Check water temperatures and record in shared folder between Estates Director and Director of Rowing. Follow controls and recommendations documented in the Water/L8 Risk Assessment.
21. Undertake responsibility of being the first key holder.
22. Ensure COSHH data and MSDS sheets are maintained, current, applicable and suitably stored, incl. suitable PPE
23. Monitor and maintain security of the site.

26. Undertaking any other task requested by the line manager or a senior colleague that is within the individual’s abilities.

Qualifications and knowledge
• Clean driving licence with D1 endorsement and towing endorsement (essential)
• Ability to drive with boat trailers (D1 & B+E categories on licence) (essential)
• First Aid certificate (desirable)
• Rowing Qualification (desirable)
• Health & Safety Qualification e.g. NEBOSH , IOSH (desirable)
Experience
• Health & Safety or regulatory compliance experience (essential)
• Hands on maintenance experience (essential)
• Experience and knowledge of rowing (essential)
• Experience of operating near water, ideally on a fast-moving river (essential)
• Experience of working within a similar setting involving repair and maintenance (desirable)
• Technical knowledge of rowing, boats & equipment (essential)

Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 per annum
