Curlew Rowing Club – Senior Squad Coach
Curlew Rowing Club is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Squad Coach to lead their Men’s and Women’s Senior Squads in the next stage of their development. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and delivering a high-performance training programme with a focus on sweep rowing, and will work closely with the captains and coaching team to foster a competitive and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver the senior squad training programme (water and land sessions)
- Coach on-water sessions (weekend sessions throughout the season with additional midweek sessions optimal)
- Set a clear racing strategy and selection framework, working towards key events such as Head of the River Race, Women’s Head of the River, Metropolitan Regatta, and Henley regattas
- Work collaboratively with the captains, development coaches, and coxes to support athlete progression
- Maintain a safe and inclusive training environment aligned with British Rowing and club policies
- Inspire a culture of accountability, improvement, and enjoyment across the squads
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven coaching experience at club or university level with a focus on Henley pathways
- Strong technical knowledge of sweep rowing and race preparation
- A positive, motivational coaching style with excellent communication skills
- Availability for regular coaching on weekday (usually morning water sessions/gym evening sessions) and weekends
- British Rowing Club Coach/Level 2 or working towards it (or international equivalent) and valid First Aid certification
Desirable:
- Full driving licence (with ability to tow rowing trailers)
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 or international equivalent
- Experience coaching both men’s and women’s squads
- Familiarity with the club rowing calendar and peak performance cycles
- Understanding of Curlew’s ethos: inclusive, ambitious, and community-driven
