Capsize and Recovery Workshop, London/Surrey

Time: 3.30-5pm classroom theory followed by 5-8pm in the pool

Description:

This course gives learners the skills and knowledge to organise and deliver club capsize and recovery training. Learners will also be able to teach club members how to respond if they experience a capsize or cold water shock, and how to assist others who experience a capsize or cold water shock. The day is predominantly practical taking place in a swimming pool, with some classroom theory time.

Please note the second half of the workshop is practical in the swimming pool, and you will need kit (swimming costume with light clothes over the top) and towels.

Workshop Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop you will able to:

·         Explain the protocol and rationale for a capsize and recovery training

·         Describe  how you will structure the capsize and recovery training session

·         Demonstrate the elements of a capsize and recovery drill as a rower, a coach or as both 

 

Other Information:

This workshop is a pre-requisite to the UKCC Level 2 Coaching Course. Upon completion, you should retain your certificate and providing you have completed all three Level 2 Course pre-requisites, you will then be able to book onto the Level 2 Coaching Course. The three pre-requisites are: Capsize or Man Overboard and Recovery Workshop, Emergency Aid Training and Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop.

If you already hold any of these certificates, providing they are still valid for another 6 months of booking your Level 2, you will not need to repeat it. Please contact your Area Education and Training Manager and send them a copy of your current certificate.
