Tobias Schröder profile image

Tobias’ earliest memory of the Olympics was as a five year old determined to learn all the flags during the Athens opening ceremony.

In terms of actually noticing the sport on show, that came in 2008 when Rebecca Adlington from his swimming club Nottingham Leander won two gold medals in the pool. It was during a swimming training session that Tobias was first made aware of rowing, when a fellow swimmer’s parent noticed his ape-ish arm span and suggested giving rowing a go.

Rowing took up most of Tobias’ time at school and at university, during which he progressed through the ranks from the Under 16 GB vs France Match, to Junior Worlds and eventually winning at U23 level. He holds his victory in the 2022 Boat Race for Oxford as his proudest achievement, but hopes to reach the pinnacle of his journey at LA 2028.
