Curtis Dickens
Rower // Para-Rowing Squad
Club: Stratford upon Avon BC
Hometown: Rugby, Warwickshire

Sport runs in the family for Curtis. His uncle has a phd in sports, his other uncle owns a gym and his dad rides superbikes. Because of this, Curtis has tried superbikes, boxing, golf, gym, badminton, motocross and go karting to name a few!
Once also the captain of his town’s football team and a passionate sportsman, Curtis’s life took an unexpected turn in September 2019 when a car accident left him with life-changing injuries and partial paralysis.
Determined not to let this define him, Curtis began his rehabilitation at the Robert Jones Hospital. Upon his release in January 2020, during the height of COVID-19 restrictions and limited NHS physiotherapy access. He took ownership of his recovery. He trained independently at a local gym and invested his own resources into private physiotherapy sessions.
Curtis’s unwavering commitment and resilience stood out. So much so that his physiotherapist, inspired by his progress, connected him with a GB Rowing talent scout. He was accepted onto a three-month Paralympic development programme, where he proved his potential.
In July 2024, Curtis proudly represented England and secured gold in a race against Scotland. After successfully completing national trials, he was invited to join the GB squad at Caversham in November 2024.
Curtis is passionate about mentoring young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and is committed to helping and inspiring them to get into the sport of rowing. Continuing an extraordinary journey shaped by determination, strength, and vision.
