Safeguarding and Integrity Lead – British Rowing

Role Purpose

Your principal purpose is to lead the safeguarding and anti-doping functions of the organisation in order that the sport operates safely. The role will require the leadership of colleagues, club welfare officers, coaches, officials and other key partners. You will be involved in ensuring British Rowing policies and procedures are developed in line with external partners and are implemented and promoted within the rowing community.

In this role, you will:

You will report directly to the Director of Culture and Integrity, demonstrating high levels of discretion, confidentiality, resolve and understanding in performing your duties.  The role will also be required to work in partnership with external agencies and organisations such as, LADO, SADO, Police, CPSU, Ann Craft Trust, Sport England and UK Sport.

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead, develop and manage the safeguarding and anti-doping function of the organisation.
  • To ensure British Rowing’s Safeguarding Case Procedures are followed effectively.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate education and training programmes for the membership so there is full understanding of the regulatory requirements.
  • To conduct support visits or engage with clubs to ensure that safeguarding are being followed and upheld.
  • Oversee safeguarding cases at club or event level, to ensure they are processed in a timely manner and handled efficiently, ensuring appropriate communication with relevant parties.
  • As part of the Culture and Integrity Team, work across British Rowing to develop high quality advice, guidance and support in order to optimise club delivery in a safe, protective and equitable manner.
  • To lead the Safeguarding and Integrity Case Officers, in their management and investigation of safeguarding cases.
  • Review the Safeguarding and Integrity Case Officer’s reports.
  • To provide advice, guidance and support relating to the physical and emotional wellbeing of children including interviewing children if necessary.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with national partners, stakeholders and third parties who can assist in the development and delivery of the regulatory requirements.
  • To work with and attend, as appropriate, sub-committees and Board meetings in order to ensure that current and new initiatives are reported upon and supported in delivery.
  • To maintain excellent records and reports through positive data analysis, which champions the strengths of the sport and addresses deficiencies as they arise.

The post-holder is expected to be fully conversant with the core requirements of the WAD Code and its requirement on coaches and team support personnel to set a good personal example in this field. When directly working with athletes the post-holder will have a responsibility to inform them appropriately of the Code’s application to them and to influence them in following a ‘drug-free’ culture.
