Council

Council is the governing committee of British Rowing. Members of Council include representatives from every British Rowing division who are appointed by the clubs and competitions within that division.

In addition to divisional representatives Council is made up of appointed, elected and co-opted members;

  • representatives from Scottish Rowing and Welsh Rowing
  • four Executive officers; the Chairman, Treasurer and two Deputy Chairmen
  • five appointed members; from Oxford, Cambridge, Leander, London and Thames clubs
  • four co-opted members selected for their experience in specific fields
  • six Chairmen of committees and commissions.

Council meets four times a year to discuss the British Rowing's policy and organisation and the development of rowing. Informed decisions are ratified through recommendations from reports made by

  • committees and commissions of British Rowing
  • British Rowing national and international offices
  • international federation representation.

British Rowing Council has the power to approve;

  • changes to rules of racing
  • affiliation of clubs and competitions
  • changes to British Rowing's constitution
  • fix the scale, rate and amounts of subscriptions payable annually to British Rowing
