Men’s Head Rowing Coach – Wolfson College Boat Club, Cambridge
WCBC seeks a Men’s Head Rowing Coach for the full 2026–27 academic year.
About the role
The Men’s Head Coach will take primary responsibility for the First Men’s Boat (M1), working alongside a dedicated Second Boat coach who leads the M2 crew. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading all M1 water sessions on the River Cam
- Designing and delivering the term-long training programme in collaboration with the Men’s Captain, including session frequency and scheduling
- Driving racing strategy and crew selection
The role involves approximately 5 sessions per week across each 8-week term, including a mix of water and land sessions. Bank-partying during on-Cam races and Bumps is expected and compensated.
Training & Logistics
Sessions are held at the Old Combined Boathouses, located just downstream of Trinity Hall, Jesus, and Goldie on the River Cam. Meet times follow CUCBC lighting regulations on weekdays, with the aim of returning to the boathouse by 08:40, and begin from 11:00 onwards on weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience coaching at Cambridge or university-level rowing
- Experience coaching on the River Cam and familiarity with CUCBC regulations and Bumps racing
- Proven ability to design and deliver structured water and land training programmes
- A coaching philosophy that is competitive, fair, and athlete-centred
The Athlete
Wolfson is a mature-only college — all athletes are current students aged 21 and above, mostly PhD and Master’s students. The M1 crew will typically be composed of rowers with at least one year of experience, with some much more experienced than others.

Salary: £25 per session, up to a maximum of £1,000 per term, on a termly contract.
