GB Rowing Development/Under 23 Teams

Our Development and U23 programme is designed to support ‘young senior’ athletes who aspire to develop into the GB Senior Olympic programme over the next 4-6 years

This includes the annual selection and development of U23 teams to represent GB at the U23 World and European Championships, as well as providing high quality international competition opportunities to leading U23 and over-23 development athletes, including at World Cups and other international regattas (e.g. Duisburg Regatta, the Holland Beker, Henley Royal Regatta). Selection for these racing opportunities takes place via the GB Senior trials process.

Outside competitions, there is also a series of camps as well as other development and education opportunities for identified athletes, including the annual altitude training camp in Sierra Nevada, and a wide range of camps and training/education opportunities at the National Training Centre at Caversham over the summer months. These are listed in the Olympic Pathway Calendar.

A particular area of focus is supporting the leading athletes making the transition from the Development/U23 programme into the Senior Olympic programme at the National Training Centre in Caversham. This approach was successfully piloted with the ‘Project Paris’ initiative, which successfully transitioned a number of leading Development/U23 programme athletes into the Olympic programme for the Paris 2024 cycle. We are shortly due to launch our ‘Project LA’ initiative to support the transition of athletes for the LA 2028 Olympic cycle.
