Charles Cousins
Charles raced in the men's quadruple scull at two of the three World Cups of the 2010 Series, Munich and Lucerne, and won a bronze medal on both occasions. This World Cup season has seen the quad step up and establish themselves as serious contenders on the World Stage.
Alhough still under 23 Charles established himself in the senior men's quad in the 2009 World Cup series, winning silver in Banyoles and Lucerne, taking 4th place in Munich and was selected in the men's quad for the World Championships in Poznan. The boat had a good chance of contending for a final place at the Worlds but bad luck struck when half of the crew had to withdraw through illness or injury. A real shame.
He was selected for the GB Rowing Team's Start Programme, sponsored by Siemens, after being tested at his local school and joined Rob Roy Boat Club where he was taught to row by Adrian Cassidy.
Charles' first GB vest was at the 2006 World Junior Championships where he finished 5th in the pair with Mohamed Sbihi. In his first U23 year in 2007 he gained GB selection and won a bronze in the double scull with Bill Lucas at the World U23 Championships.
In 2008 he was part of the men's quad which narrowly missed Olympic qualification. He then teamed up again with Bill Lucas at the World U23 Championships where they showed their class winning the gold medal to become World U23 Champions. He also took part in the European Championships that year in the men's double scull with Bill Lucas.
Charles is currently studying for a degree in Psychology at Reading University.
He is a Rubik's cube enthusiast.
Charles is Lottery Funded through UK Sport.
