Event Detail: From April 2026, the entry point for all formal Coach Education is the Assistant Coach Training. Completion of all four Assistant Coach modules within 18 months will conclude your training. You will then be awarded the British Rowing ‘Assistant Coach Training’ credential.
This is module 2 of 3 you will need to attend before booking onto the final in-person module. You can attend the 3 online modules in any order, but module 4 (The In-Person ‘Bringing Your Coaching to Life’) is the final training activity and, as such, should be undertaken only when the others have been completed.
Where: Join the module online from a good internet connection, and in line with the terms and conditions set out for joining a British Rowing online classroom. A link will be sent to the email address on your membership account at the time of the booking.
When: 6.30-9pm (please note that there may be some slight variation in the finish time)
Great Coaching in a Modern Society
Overview
About the module: Great Coaching in a Modern Society is one of the first steps towards understanding the role of the coach in not only supporting rowers on the water, but the wider roles and responsibilities in a modern society which ensures our sport is welcoming, safe and inclusive for all. It is aimed at anyone who is starting out in their formal learning journey and is applicable to coaches working with all groups from beginners to competent rowers.
The training is a core foundation for any coach wanting to ensure they have a heightened awareness as you gain experience. The module will cover:
·Understanding your duty to care, and what it can look like
·Creating a welcoming coaching environment
·The code of conduct in your coaching practice
·Being a conscientious coach
·Legislation and operational procedures

·This standalone module aligns to the CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) Professional Standards for Coaching for the role of Assistant Coach. You will be asked to complete a self-declaration at the end of the module to confirm you have understood the content, and the additional resources available to support you in your role.
Who can attend? Anyone aged 16 and above who is inspired to develop themselves and their coaching skills
For Coaches under the age of 18 : You will need to be 16 at the time of booking. A parent or guardian will need to complete a consent form, which will be sent as a part of the booking confirmation email at the time of booking. Until your 18th birthday, you must be supervised during all coaching activities.
Recommended pre-course learning
As part of your role as an Assistant Coach, British Rowing advise that you should also be working towards gaining Emergency First Aid and Safeguarding and Protecting Children.
·British Rowing recognise the UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children training which can be completed through an online classroom UK Coaching Safeguarding course for adults ( UK Coaching Safeguarding course for 16-18 yr olds.)
·Emergency First Aid can be done through any independent provider and must be a practical course which includes emergency CPR training.
·Online ACT modules run weekly throughout the year but do need a minimum of 12 to make them viable. By booking onto this module you will be agreeing to our terms and conditions, and adhering to the British Rowing and UK Coaching Codes of Conduct.
