Understanding Your Role and Your Rowers training will be delivered online. Please note: This is 1 of 3 online modules you will need to attend before booking on to the final in-person module "Bringing your Coaching to Life". You can attend the 3 online modules in any order. You must complete all 4 modules in 18 months to complete your Assistant Coach Training.  

Where: Join the module online from a good internet connection, and in line with the terms and conditions set out for joining a British Rowing online classroom. A link will be sent to the email address on your membership account at the time of booking.

Overview

About the module: Understanding Your Role and Your Rowers is one of the first steps towards becoming a rower centred coach. It is aimed at anyone who is starting out in their formal learning journey and is applicable to coaches working with all groups from beginners to competent rowers. 

The training is a core foundation for any coach in understanding their role, and how to develop and progress as you gain experience. The module will cover: 

●Creating a learning environment

●Understanding coaching skills

●The role of the coach

●Your role as a coach

●Duty of Care  and what it means in your role

●Understanding your rowers

●Inclusive coaching

●Communication

●The feedback cycle

●Reviewing and developing your coaching

●Your ongoing development and action planning

This standalone module aligns to the CIMSPA Professional Standards for Coaching for the role of Assistant Coach which can be found here. You will be asked to complete a self-declaration at the end of the module to confirm you have understood the content, and the additional resources available to support you in your role.

** Completion of all four British Rowing Assistant Coach modules will complete your training to be awarded the ‘Assistant Coach Training’ Credential.

Who can attend? Anyone over 16 years of age who is inspired to develop themselves and their coaching skills. 

For Coaches aged 16-17: 

If you are 16 or 17, you will need to be 16 at the time of booking. A parent or guardian will need to complete a consent form, which will be sent as a part of the booking confirmation email at the time of booking.  You will be certificated fully after your 18th birthday. Until you are 18, you must be supervised during all coaching activities.

Mandatory pre-requisites 

As part of your role as an Assistant Coach you should also be working towards gaining Emergency First Aid and Safeguarding and Protecting Children.

British Rowing recognise the UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children training which can be completed through an online classroom UK Coaching Safeguarding course for adults ( UK Coaching Safeguarding course for 16-18 yr olds

Emergency First Aid can be done through any independent provider and must be a practical course which includes emergency CPR training.
