Vesta Rowing Club – Men’s Squad Head Coach

Vesta Rowing Club is currently looking for an experienced and professional coach for its Senior Men’s Squad as it looks to build upon the squad’s development over the last year.

Vesta Rowing Club is one of the largest clubs in the country for adult rowing and has included record entries at Fours Head, the Remenham Challenge, HORR and HRR.

The Men’s Squad seeks to build on the development in athletic ability, strength and technique which has been cemented this year under the coaching of James Cracknell, who is moving onto new full time employment elsewhere.

Key Responsibilities

This is a part-time role and the responsibilities will include:

  • Setting the Training Programme, managing athlete workload and targeting events.
  • Managing the Squad of 40+ athletes, driving technical improvement and ensuring athletes are motivated to achieve the best possible results.
  • Leading a team of volunteer coaches to ensure a consistent approach to athlete development.
  • Working alongside the other Squad coaches to ensure that the squads’ training schedules do not conflict with one another.
  • Liaising with the executive committee.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • The ability to manage a large squad (circa 40 athletes) effectively.
  • The ability to develop athletes towards high performance goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentational skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • The ability to make, justify and communicate decisions on selection and squad direction.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and dynamically within the existing coaching structure.
  • Experience in setting and administering training programs, accounting for athlete progression.

Commitment:

  • A minimum of three coached sessions over the course of the weekend.
  • Two coached sessions during the week (either morning or evening).
  • Full weekends when dictated by the Rowing Events calendar (particularly during summer regatta season).
  • Squad training camp (for 1 week) around Easter.
  • Weekly administration time.
