Tyne Amateur Rowing Club – Junior Squad Coordinator and Coach
Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is looking to hire an individual to act as a Junior Coordinator and Coach to further the development of the junior section alongside the volunteer coaches already within the club.
Tyne ARC is seeking a Junior Manager and a Coach to join the coaching team for the 2025/26 season. The squad currently has 40 members from J12-18, competing locally and nationally. The squad has developed from focusing on enjoyment to developing performance goals in an athlete-focused manner.
Job Title: Junior Squad Rowing Coordinator and Coach
Responsible to: Club Captain
Contract: Part-time (10-12 hours initially)
Purpose
The post holder will work under the guidance of the captain and liaise with the Junior Committee. The primary purpose is to organise communication and to deliver a high-quality training program of sculling and rowing alongside volunteer coaches.
The Role
This is a part-time position that will oversee athlete development throughout the year, including racing events and training camps.
Standard week based on 10-12 hrs of commitment a week, these hours do not all fall in core office hours, with flexibility to work with and organise other part-time coaching volunteers as per rota to cover a range of training sessions. Currently, there are four 2-hour (5-7 pm) evening sessions, Monday to Thursday, and a 4.5-hour (8:00 am-12.30 pm) session on Saturday and a 2.5-hour (10 am – 12-30 pm) session on Sunday.
Racing events: The post holder is expected to attend events that the club chooses to participate in, with the club paying for expenses.
Training camps: The post holder will be available to travel with (when necessary) and oversee athletes at training camps on the agreed-upon dates. The club will pay for the expenses.
Salary/hour: £15p/h
Start Date: Beginning of the school term in September
Responsibilities and Expectations
1. Develop the training program in line with the GB program, alongside volunteers, to be implemented throughout the year. It should encompass water sessions, land training, and training camps.
2. Work with the coaching team to improve athlete performance in water sessions, give regular feedback, and foster squad behaviour through teamwork and respect.
3. To coordinate all day-to-day requirements of the squad
a. Emails/Facebook group – communicate with parents/guardians
b. Updating Google sheet
c. Race entries with volunteer coaches
d. Ongoing evaluation of training and progress, including race results
4. Uphold the safety requirements of equipment and assets with the Vice-Captain of Boats
5. Report/communicate to the Captain, welfare officer and junior committee where necessary.
6. Manage the learn to row courses.
7. Ensure the welfare of the squad, including coaches and parents, by liaising with the Club Welfare officer.
8. Accompany crews to training camps and racing events throughout the year as needed where necessary.
9. Ensure all junior boats and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose for every outing in liaison with the Vice-Captain of Boats.
10. Any other reasonable duties that would fall within the scope of the position, to be further discussed.
