Beginners Coach from Hinksey Sculling School
Hinksey Sculling School are seeking an enthusiastic, committed coach to introduce children aged 9 to 17 to the sport, building the fundamentals of sculling, and progressing them safely from complete beginners to a level where they can join the Intermediate group.
The coach will play a key role in shaping beginners experience by delivering engaging sessions that build technical skills, water confidence, teamwork, and enjoyment of the sport.
The Beginners group is an essential part of the rowers’ journey into the club and through to our intermediate squad. The beginners coach will work as part of the Hinksey team.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate and engaging coaching for complete beginners
- Teach core skills including:
- Boat handling and water safety
- Correct sculling technique
- Balance, coordination, and rhythm
- Supervise participants on and off the water at all times; supervise capsize and swim tests; promote safe practice in accordance with club and British Rowing guidelines
- Monitor individual progress and provide constructive feedback and clear progression goals
- Manage volunteers assigned to help the Lake Squad (beginners)
- Liaise with parents/guardian, using the App Spond to provide timely communications to athletes and their families as required
- Work collaboratively with the Hinksey coaching team to transition rowers to intermediate squad
