Fulham Reach Boat Club – Boat Technician

Fulham Reach Boat Club are looking for a hands-on and practical volunteer to help maintain their rowing boats, equipment, and site. The candidate will play a key role in keeping their fleet water-ready and support a safe, welcoming environment for all rowers. About Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC)

We are a dynamic and growing charity with a bold vision of using Sport for Good.

At FRBC, we believe in making rowing inclusive, accessible, and impactful—particularly for young people who are underrepresented in the sport. FRBC is an innovative and award-winning charity, World Rowing Programme of the Year and UK Community Sports Club of the Year, as well as certified as a Great Place to Work 2024/25.

We provide access to rowing for people from underserved backgrounds—many of whom are new to the sport. Our fleet of boats and vibrant site on the Thames are key to delivering our youth, community, and schools programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support basic maintenance of rowing boats (sculls, sweep, tin fish coaching launches petrol and electric)
  • Assist with minor repairs to hulls, riggers, seats, footplates, and steering systems
  • Check and help maintain rowing equipment: blades, tools, safety kit, and lifejackets
  • Identify damage and flag larger repair needs to staff or allocating smaller jobs to our volunteer repair crew
  • Help with general upkeep of the boathouse, workshop, pontoon and outdoor areas
  • Maintain a tidy and safe working area
  • Option to support trailer loading/unloading for events (if available)

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Practical mindset and basic mechanical or DIY skills
  • Willingness to get hands-on with tools and equipment
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Supportive of FRBC’s inclusive and community-focused values

Desirable:

  • Experience working with rowing equipment or boats
  • Familiarity with rowing club environments
  • Knowledge of basic fibreglass or carbon repair
  • Trailer towing or launch driving (optional)

Salary: £5,000

Type: Flexible hours (suggested: 1–2 half days per week)
