Boatman – Rowing Centre and Swift Racing, Studham, Bedfordshire

Rowing Centre U.K. Ltd is seeking a hands-on, reliable Rowing Boatman to manage the logistics, maintenance, and preparation of their Swift Racing fleet. This role is essential for supporting the company’s sales, rentals, and boathouse racking services.

Role Overview

Rowing Centre U.K. Ltd is seeking a dedicated and reliable Rowing Boatman to join our operations team. This role is central to our day-to-day business, ensuring our Swift Racing fleet is perfectly maintained, logistically positioned, and event-ready. You will be a key member of our boat transport and logistics operations, playing a key role in both our sales division and our specialised boathouse racking services.
This is a hands-on position ideal for someone with a background in rowing or boat maintenance who is comfortable working independently and as part of a field team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Boat Logistics & Transport
    Safely transport rowing boats and equipment across the U.K. using company vehicles and trailers.
  • Manage the loading, securing, and unloading of rowing boats, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and loading standards.
  • Coordinate schedules to ensure timely delivery and collection for client rentals, sales, and event support.

Maintenance & Preparation

  • Prepare boats to a high standard for client handover, events, and resale.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the fleet.
  • Minor Repairs: Conduct basic repairs (e.g., rigging adjustments, fin/shoe/shoe-plate replacements, and minor hull repairs) to keep equipment in peak condition.
  • Assist in the inventory management of spare parts and boat equipment.

Warehouse & Operations Support

  • Maintain the organisation and cleanliness of the warehouse environment.
  • Boathouse Racking: Assist our racking division in the assembly, installation, and site preparation for client boathouse storage solutions.
  • Support the general team in the daily movement and storage of boats within our facility.

Events & Tours

  • Provide on-site technical support for rowing tours and regattas, ensuring boats are rigged and ready for participants.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, providing professional, helpful service to our rowing clients and partners during events.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience:

  • Proven experience in a logistics, warehouse, or rowing environment is highly desirable.
  • Driving Licence: A full, clean U.K. driving licence. Experience towing trailers (B+E category) is strongly preferred.
  1. Physical Stamina:The role is physically demanding; you must be comfortable lifting and handling rowing shells and equipment regularly.
  2. Professionalism: Good communication skills, punctuality, and a proactive attitude toward safety.
  3. Flexibility: Willingness to travel and work weekends/evenings as dictated by the event and tour calendar.
