J14 Lead Rowing Coach – Lady Eleanor Holles School

LEHBC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated rowing coach to join the Rowing Department at LEH as J14 Lead Rowing Coach. The successful applicant will be involved in all levels of rowing at LEH (including work with the J15 through to Senior Squads), with the emphasis in the development of the sport at J14 level.

LEHBC is one of the top girl’s rowing schools in the country, with medals won at every age group this year at National Schools. This is an exciting moment to join the programme. Building on recent successes and ambitious plans for the future, the successful candidate will work alongside an experienced coaching team, offering excellent opportunities for learning, development and contribution to a programme with high aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching

  • To take lead responsibility for the J14 squad of highly committed rowers to national standard, setting and implementing a full training programme (within the boundaries as set by the DOR), including S&C plan taking into consideration school commitments.
  • Use tracking and monitoring to facilitate selection of crews in consultation with the DOR.
  • Follow a technical model and training structure as set out by the DOR.
  • To have sound knowledge of LEH rowing and sculling techniques.
  • Prepare crews for National events.
  • Attend annual training camps including Easter training camps (both J14 and Senior).
  • To act as loco parentis for small groups of pupils at away events.
  • Attend every squad training session. No holidays are to be taken during planned training and racing season.
  • To be interchangeable between the different year groups and have the ability to act as either Lead Rowing Coach or Assistant Rowing Coach and cover for colleagues’ absence as required.
  • Follow all BC policies as set out by the DOR.
  • Work successfully and communicate effectively as part of a large coaching team.

Administration

  • All relevant administration relating to leading their squad. Write formal reports, as required, for pupils in the squad.
  • Deal with training and race day logistics and administration as required.
  • Attend Boat Club meetings.

Working with the rest of the School

  • Work closely with the Director of Sport, Heads of other Sports and relevant Head of Departments, for the best possible outcome for pupils.

Health and Safety

  • At all times maintain the highest standards of health and safety.
  • To fully understand the implications of the Health and Safety Policy within the boathouse.
  • Be aware of the school’s own H&S and Child Protection policies and procedures and adhere to these.
  • Seek the advice of the DOR on any Health and Safety matters as required.

Specific Duties

  • To work the training hours as determined by the DOR, including races.
  • To assist with the implementation of the LEH training programme.
  • Rigging of boats.
  • To assist with the transportation of pupils and equipment to training and racing.
  • Assist with the securing of launches and the BC after sessions.
  • BC entries.
  • To communicate effectively with teachers, pupils and parents.

Safeguarding

  • To adhere to School policy on safeguarding and ensure that the welfare of pupils is always prioritised.
  • To undertake regular safeguarding training as required.

Other

  • To be contactable at all times (except when on official holiday) by telephone or email.
  • To undertake any other duties necessary for the smooth running of LEHBC as determined by the DOR.
  • Holidays must be taken outside of training period (as set out by the DOR) and racing season. Prior agreement with the DOR must be made if taking holiday during this period.
  • To undertake such other tasks relevant to the work or needs of the School as these needs arise and as may be reasonable requested

The successful candidate must be available to work both days at the weekend to coach and accompany students to sporting fixtures.

Salary: £20,148 - £23,722 (0.67 FTE) per annum (dependent on experience),
