King’s College School, Wimbledon – Sports Coach

Kings College School is seeking to appoint a well-qualified, competent Rowing coach on a casual basis

This is an exciting opportunity for a competent Rowing coach to play a key role coaching competitive students at one of the country’s leading boy’s schools. You will support the director of Rowing in the over-all running of the Boathouse, specifically (but not exclusively) with our J14 year group.

Reporting to: Director of Rowing

Coaching Responsibilities:

There will be an expectation to attend regattas and head races and assist with the equipment required at such events. A sound understanding of rowing and sculling technique is required as well as an ability and to be able to demonstrate key aspects of rigging. There will be a requirement to act as loco parentis for groups whilst on away-events. Assisting the director of Rowing with the day to day administration of the club is also an integral part of this role.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the risk assessments throughout the boat club
  • To ensure that safety at the boathouse is of paramount importance and also while away at events
  • To ensure that all communications equipment is operational and compliant
  • To adhere to the School’s H&S and Staff Behaviour policies and procedures
  • To administer basic first aid to pupils wherever required during the working day, dealing with any basic accidents, reporting incidents and liaising with School’s Nursing Team when needed (training will be provided)
  • Be responsible for the welfare of children and young people for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact with.
  • To adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures at all times

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in a similar role (essential)
  • Be required to assist with training during the school holidays (essential)
  • Be available to coach at races at the weekend (essential)
  • Be competent in coaching Rowing at a young level on a tidal river (desirable)
  • Hold RYA L2 powerboat qualification and British Rowing qualification (desirable)

Once in post, the successful candidate will be supported by the director of Rowing and will have on-site assistance from the other highly experienced coaching staff and will be required to support the Rowing programme at King’s College School both on site at Putney/Wimbledon and at events and training camps. Candidates should note that the Easter training camp will take place in Spain (27th March – 4th April) and should be available for these dates. There will also be a requirement to assist with training during the holidays.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Hourly rate – £16.60 per hour
  • Expected weekly hours: 20-25
  • Expected sessions to be covered may vary but are likely to include:
  • Monday – Friday afternoons
  • Tuesday evening training sessions
  • Saturday morning
  • Sunday afternoon

Expected start date: January 2026
