City of Bristol Rowing Club – Volunteer Men’s Squad Lead Coach

City of Bristol Rowing Club are seeking a Volunteer Men’s coach with a passion for the sport and a desire to help their athletes succeed.

You will serve as the Men’s Squad Lead Coach, working closely with our assistant coaches and captains to guide the direction of the squad. As this is an unpaid volunteer role, your main goal will be to create a supportive and effective training environment. You will help develop and implement a training plan focused on sweep rowing, designed to help our athletes reach their full potential with the resources we have. We’ve had some great successes recently; last season, our men’s squad achieved a record number of Henley qualifications and we’re excited to continue that momentum with your help.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead Coaching: Lead on-water sessions a few times per week with the support of your assistant coaches.
  • Programme Design: Design the men’s squad’s overall training program, working within the wider club’s schedule. You’ll have a template programme to build on, and the schedule includes a rest day on Sundays.
  • Crew Formation: Work with your assistant coaches and captains to guide the process of forming crews for racing.
  • Race & Camp Attendance: You will have the opportunity to join us at key competitions, including a training camp.

What We Offer:

We highly value your time and commitment. As this is an unpaid volunteer position, our primary focus is on supporting your growth as a coach. A budget may be available to pursue coaching qualifications and other professional development opportunities directly relevant to the role, helping you formalise your skills. We will also cover reasonable coaching-related expenses, including travel and accommodation for training camps.

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a coach with a passion for the sport and a desire to help our athletes succeed. We value your commitment and your ability to inspire our squad.

Essential:
  • A passion for coaching and a positive approach to athlete development.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • A willingness to commit to your own personal and coaching development.
Desirable:
  • RYA Level II launch driving certificate.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • We are committed to helping you grow as a coach and a budget may be available to help you achieve these desirable qualifications.
