Clare Jamison

Clare began rowing at Oxford University, where she competed in the Boat Race. After a break from the sport in her 20s, she rediscovered sculling during lockdown in Dorset with the Coastal Barbarians.

Since 2022, she’s been involved in river, coastal, and surf boat rowing in Australia and participating in trials and racing for Great Britain in the Beach Sprints and Endurance formats.

Beach Sprints reignited her love for rowing due to its dynamic nature and offering of adrenaline rush with its fast-paced side by side format and additional factors of navigation and managing the extra elements of wind and waves. Clare feels that the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic program adds to the excitement, attracting more athletes and competitors as it grows as well as providing an excellent spectator sport.

While becoming an Olympian is a major goal, it wasn’t a childhood aspiration; she initially returned to rowing for enjoyment but found herself drawn to the competitive aspect. Outside of rowing, she works as an accountant and loves any outdoor adventure. She can be found on a bike, trail running and swimming and most likely by the sea and chasing the sun.

She is passionate about women in sport, particularly inspired by the progress towards equality in the Boat Race and the support of figures like Helena Morrissey. She is keen to encourage girls to have the confidence to stay in sport and have fun whatever their ultimate sporting ambitions. She has also volunteered with the “Nippers” program in Australia, teaching surf life-saving skills to children.

Her inspiration stems from her competitive nature and a constant desire to learn and improve, especially in Beach Sprints, which requires diverse skills beyond just strength. She enjoys the daily training, continuous strive for self-improvement and focuses on the present to enjoy the journey!
