Victoria Thornley

For the 2010 World Cup Series Vicky raced in the women's eight, winning gold in Bled, silver in Munich and bronze in Lucerne.  This has been a promising season for the women's eight who have shown consistency throughout the World Cup series.

Vicky gained her first GB vest in 2009 and, in an outstanding debut, won gold in the women’s eight at the 2009 World U23 Championships in Racice.  This was a strong achievement for Vicky and the crew who led from the first stroke.  Although the US closed a little in the dying strokes of the race, the result was never in doubt and GB had its first ever gold in this class - the outcome of a long term strategy to build this project.

She is GB's first "Sporting Giant" to win a medal.  She joined the GB Rowing Team's Start Programme in November 2007 and has made rapid progress in rowing since then.  Since January 2010 she has been training in the Senior Women 's Squad.

Vicky started a degree in Business Management but decided to leave University so that she could pursue her rowing ambitions.  She is now studying a Diploma in Sporting Excellence and is a qualified fitness instructor and personal trainer.  She would also like to study French part time in the future. 

Vicky was previously a semi professional show jumper and also did some modelling in her gap year in 2006.  She enjoys snowboarding, spending time with her friends, watching films and shopping.
