Paralympic Games

Rowing was included in the Paralympic Games for the first time in Beijing in 2008. The GB Rowing Team’s Tom Aggar and Helene Raynsford both struck gold in China in the single scull event and Aggar is seeking selection for London 2012.

Rowing for disabled people is called “adaptive rowing” with adaptations made to the boats. It is about removing barriers to participation in the sport for anyone who has a physical, sensory or learning impairment.

The GB Rowing Team’s adaptive squad have been winning gold medals at World Championships since 2003 and won a bronze medal in the adaptive mixed coxed four in Beijing to go with the gold medals won by Aggar and Raynsford, making them the top rowing nation at the Games.
